Many have heard the “myth” that filing an Income Tax Return and paying taxes is a voluntary act.  Well, the “fact” is…the tax code does refer to income tax filing as a voluntary compliance and some have interpreted that to mean they can’t be forced to participate.  Voluntary compliance refers to fact that the IRS makes taxpayers responsible for calculating and sending in their own income tax return, rather than expecting the IRS to calculate the taxes owed and issuing a tax due bill or a refund check, automatically.

Not filing your taxes is not an option.  You have until midnight April 17th to file your return or file an extension.
